Built between the 1930s and 1950s, PCC (Presidents’ Conference Committee) streetcars were an integral part of Toronto's transit fleet. At their peak, a total of 745 of these vehicles once roamed Toronto's streets before being phased out by newer rolling stock starting in the 1970s. Only two "heritage" streetcars remain in Toronto, though many of the former PCC cars still serve transit systems around the globe, including the San Francisco Municipal Railway, where the TTC's original livery has been preserved. In today's Photo of the Day, which was submitted to the UrbanToronto Flickr Pool by Sean Marshall, one of the two remaining PCC streetcars can be seen travelling westbound on Queens Quay.
