As a part of the ongoing Downtown East Revitalization, the City of Toronto is hosting a Community Consultation meeting on Wednesday, May 20, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the 291 George Street TCHC building. With an aim towards public engagement and discussion, the meeting will be an opportunity for interested members of the community to learn about the project, its aims and immediate goals for the future of the Downtown East Revitalization. Furthermore, the meeting will include a discussion on the importance of creating a Community Advisory Group, a task-force which will be encouraged to engage with local residents and business owners in order to provide as much local consultation and involvement as possible.

Bounded by Carlton, Queen, Jarvis, and Sherbourne, the Downtown East Revitalization district represents a diverse urban area containing a mixture of low-and-high-density residential and commercial uses, along with a combination of various transit infrastructure and bike lanes. In close proximity to Old Toronto, the Downtown East Revitalization efforts will focus heavily upon heritage issues, and how future plans will affect the character and urban sensibility of some of Toronto's oldest neighbourhoods. Looking to the future of the Downtown East, future plans will examine closely the best solutions for creating a viable, liveable neighbourhood, one that, most importantly for the project, involves the creation of both affordable and other types of housing, while balancing the existing heritage resources that give the area its distinct urban character. All interested members of the public are strongly encouraged to attend and add their voices to this important phase of the Downtown East Revitalization.
