We have been keeping our eyes peeled as further details emerge about 5959 Yonge Street Condos, a new two-tower high rise condominium development proposed for North York by Ghods Builders Incorporated. The project is notable for its location and its scale in context with the surroundings, but it is the diverse mix of conventional and unconventional amenities being offered to potential buyers that is becoming its most impressive asset.

ThKirkor Architects Planners-designed development will house approximately 40,000 square feet of shared amenity space spanning four floors of the taller tower. Business and personal gatherings will be made convenient by a business centre, party rooms with kitchens, and a sports bar, as well as some more familiar condominium amenities like a movie theatre, media room, a library. A pet spa will be a boon for owners of dogs and cats.

5959 Yonge has several sports and fitness amenities up its sleeve, offering a 10-pin bowling alley, a Yoga/Pilates studio and fitness centre. Residents will also enjoy an indoor pool area with adjoining rain room, wet steam room and dry sauna.

Possibly the most intriguing recreation amenity is an innovative glass multi-sport LED fitness court with adjustable lines, allowing users to mark the court for over a dozen different sports with just the push of a button. This makes the first time such a facility has ever been included in a condominium development.

Outdoor amenity spaces will serve as a private park for the development. Renderings depict cabana rooms, patio and BBQ areas of 5959 Yonge's landscaped roof terrace, which should prove to be a great space to hang out. A Zen river garden and reflecting pools will add to the appeal here.

A standout amenity space will be the “Sky Atrium”, which will cantilever out from 32nd floor—roughly three quarters of the way up the taller 43-storey tower. Amenity spaces located on upper floors are an emerging trend in Toronto high-rise condominium developments, offering residents of all floors and all frontages a shared, commanding view. At 5959 Yonge, this shared view will be best enjoyed from the Sky Atrium's "Chai Room".

5959 Yonge will add approximately 15,000 sq. ft. of retail space along the street at the corner of Cummer Avenue, just north of Finch, with a canopied ground realm to promote pedestrian flow. The location will put residents and businesses within a 6 minute walk of Finch subway station and adjoining TTC, GO Transit and Viva buses. Some day, the Yonge subway line may be extended north, with a stop proposed at Cummer.

Suites at 5959 Yonge start in price from $288,900, and are available in sizes ranging from 510 square feet to 750 square feet. Units can even be combined to create layouts exceeding 1,000 square feet. The suites will feature custom cabinetry, quartz countertops and stainless steel integrated appliances in the kitchen while bathrooms will have integrated countertops and European-style sinks. Unconventional goodies aren't limited to the amenity areas mentioned earlier in the article, as a safety deposit box and a stainless steel movable kitchen island will come included in all suites.
