The Erin Mills Town Centre Expansion is running its course on Mississauga's West side. After 25 years of operation, the mall is currently undergoing a $100 million renovation transforming both the inside and out. Designed by MMC Architecture, the revitalized shopping centre will provide an enhanced retail experience to the Erin Mills community whose local skyline is being transformed by a new glass and steel sphere, 283 feet in circumference.
Provided by Broccolini Construction, the aerial photos above and below show recent progress at the mall. The sphere's structure, designed by GHA Design, was completed a few months ago and now the transparent glazing is making its way towards the top of it. The glass panels are expected to be fully installed by mid-February, sealing off the building from the cold and bringing a large amount of natural light to the inside. The re-arranged square below the sphere will provide an infinity pool and spaces such as benches to encourage social interactions.
A 54 foot high glass atrium that will house the renewed and extended food court also plays an essential role in flooding the interiors with light, but visitors will have to wait until completion in Spring 2015 to enjoy this brand new space. Wavy wood paneling is currently being installed on the upper parts of the food court walls, bringing warmth to the space where the white-iron tables are being put in place. The extension of the food court aims to provide customers with a larger selection of restaurants and needed additional seating.
Moving through the spacious and airy-looking shopping hallways now lined with glass balustrades and light-toned limestone floors, visitors are discovering revamped facilities which include a new family washroom with a dedicated nursing room. Indeed, developed by 20VIC Management Inc., the Erin Mills Town Center aims to become a vibrant, convenient 'world-class' urban retail destination, a place for the local community to meet and be entertained. Renovations are set to be completed by Fall 2015.
