One of the biggest condo sales success stories of Summer 2014 would have to be LeMine Investment Group and Devron Developments' The Academy, a Kirkor-designed 26-storey condominium coming to Morningside Avenue and Ellesmere Road. The development, geared to the investor market, will add 339 suites to the area near the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus (UTSC), much of which is expected be leased to students attending classes at UTSC and adjacent the Centennial College campus. The pressing need for student housing in the area contributed significantly to the success of this project, which sold out during its VIP Preview in July.

During that VIP Preview, the team behind The Academy pledged to donate $30,000 to the Hospital for Sick Children, and this past Friday, principals Pouyan Safapour from Devron and Thomas Lui from LeMine lived up to their word and presented a ceremonial cheque (as well as a real one!) to JP McMillan, Director, Sick Kids Foundation. Donations received the Sick Kids Foundation help to—

• support major equipment purchases and capital renovations – ensuring our facilities remain leading edge
• fund training programs for our health professionals to keep them at the top of their fields
• fund research, allowing our scientists to push the frontiers of science
• fund global projects, helping to build capacity around the world to improve child health

$99-million came from the Sick Kids Foundation to build the Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning which opened recently. Every donation counts.
