Transforming Charles Street southeast of Yonge & Bloor is CHAZ Yorkville Condos. This residential side street has become the major hub of redevelopment for the surrounding area since being bookended by Casa and BSN at the west end and X the Condominium at the east end a few years ago. The CHAZ construction site now shares the street with Casa II and X2 developments, and Casa III promises to arrive in the next couple years too.

New York-based developer and landlord Jason Fane created 45 Charles Ltd. to bring CHAZ Yorkville Condos to life with the help of project manager Edenshaw Homes LimitedThe Page + Steele / IBI Group Architects-designed building will boast a unique tower featuring 45° diagonal walls of glass, melded with a limestone-clad podium.

Despite freezing winter temperatures, workers are still outside working on the tower's cladding whenever possible. Thanks to UrbanToronto contributor Atlantis, whose recently posted photos of the CHAZ construction site showcase both the new glass and stone panels, we get a better idea of how the tower will look once finished.

Below are the preassembled limestone panels that are being attached to the podium. They will be cleaned up at the end of the project, revealing the natural features of the stone. Compared with more typical precast concrete cladding used in Toronto, the finishing here should look exceptional.

Although construction is currently slow moving owing to the severe chill in the air, CHAZ Yorkville Condos should take off towards the sky again once the weather improves. There are roughly 33 storeys to go until the tower's mechanical levels top off, likely in early Fall 2014.

The most exciting part of construction will be the 36th and 37th floors. They will become the CHAZ Club, a VIP amenity space for the residents to relax and entertain in. The CHAZ Club will be built jewel-box like, extending outside the tower's structure towards the south, with huge picture windows and an open balcony facing the Downtown Toronto skyline.

Being steps away from posh Yorkville, quirky Yonge Street, and the lively Church-Wellesley village makes CHAZ's location central to various vibrant neighbourhoods. The goal is to create an exciting condominium to compliment the location, so the amenities, like the CHAZ Club, have been designed to be some of the most memorable in Toronto. A high tech video game room, well-equipped gym, and a peaceful garden and indoor/outdoor lounge area are amongst other amenities designed by Cecconi Simone and Land Art Design that residents should really love.

When finished, CHAZ Yorkville Condos will rise 47 storeys, featuring suites ranging from 400 square feet to 2,400 square feet. Keep updated with CHAZ Yorkville Condos in our Projects & Constructions thread, or for more renderings and information, check out our dataBase file, linked below.
