After a speedy year of construction, The Daniels Corporation’s NY2 Condos is nearing exterior completion on Sheppard just east of Bayview. The 7-storey, Core Architects-designed development will soon see occupancy, and stand as the final piece of Daniels’ award-winning NY Towers community.

In the past year the project has transformed from a muddy hole in the ground to an almost fully clad condominium, and we watched it grow throughout 2013. Back in March we got our first look at NY2’s excavated pit, which had just seen the installation of the project’s tower crane.

Skipping forward two and a half months to the end of May, the project had climbed above grade and work was underway on the ground floor. Our visit at the end of May also marked the first of many monthly visits to the site throughout 2013.

June saw the completion of the first ground floor, which required a fair bit of complicated formwork compared to the typical floorplans that followed.

Only 30 days later the project sat four storeys in height, with repetitive floorplates certainly contributing to the impressive progress seen in July.

The speedy pace of construction continued throughout August, and by the end of the month concrete was being poured on the seventh and final floor of the building.

By September, NY2 had officially topped out, and cladding installation was in full swing.

Since the end of September, cladding has contributed significantly to the exterior, while interior work is now progressing to the 140-unit condominium building.

We will return for a look at NY2 in the new year, as the building’s finishing touches continue to come together. Until then, a comprehensive collection of project facts and renderings can be found in our dataBase file, linked below. Want to get involved in the discussion?
