With bold, large-scale proposals like 2131 Yonge St. and 2221 Yonge St. rekindling interest in midtown Toronto’s residential developments, it is worth remembering that there are other projects well underway in the area currently, including ones of a more boutique-style nature comparitively. One project currently under construction steps from the bustling Yonge and Eglinton intersection is The Berwick and CityTowns at The Berwick, a condominium and townhouse development by Andrin Homes and The Brown Group of Companies, which iswell on its way towards 17 storeys after a relatively speedy excavation of the site.  In the photos below, we get a look at ongoing construction activity at The Berwick, as it begins to rise from the corner of Duplex and Berwick.

The Page + Steele / IBI Group Architects design features a series of stepped terraces, which politely transition the building from 17 storeys down to a height of 3-storey townhomes along the Duplex Avenue frontage. The project will employ several creative energy saving solutions to increase efficiency, including a green roof and extensive terraces, planned to occupy half of the total roof area. Amenities will include a fully equipped fitness room, yoga studio, steam rooms, party room and outdoor terrace lounge, and several more.

The development will bring 205 condominium units to the Yonge and Eglinton area, including 20 3-storey townhouses marketed as CityTowns at The Berwick, the friendly face of the project to the existing single family homes facing them. With the Eglinton Crosstown LRT on the horizon, more projects similar to The Berwick will be a familiar sight in the area over the next few years, as developers act to acquire properties in the area surrounding the future Yonge/Eglinton transit hub.
