Work on the building's foundation is progressing well at the much-anticipated RBC WaterPark Place III development just south of the Gardiner Expressway. It looks as though three cranes have now been erected on site, and support columns are popping up across the building's footprint. Forum member Jack Landau snapped the images below, providing an idea as to just how large the site is, and its situation in relation to a number of surrounding landmarks.
While aerial views and maps are invaluable in providing a clear idea as to a building's location, the importance of having pedestrian-level perspectives cannot be undermined. The image above faces northeast, directly towards the Air Canada Centre and the Toronto Harbour Commission Building. The Bay Street ramp from the Gardiner cuts across the upper left of the image. In order to connect the building to Toronto's established financial core and PATH system, a bridge will be constructed that will pass under the Gardiner and above Lakeshore, rather than tunnelling below.
The image above faces northwest, towards the SkyDome (er, Roger's Centre). The curving York Street off-ramp will demarcate the western border of the building. Ice Condo can be seen rising on the upper right, just north of the Gardiner.
RBC WaterPark Place III is set to finish construction by mid-to-late 2014, and is being developed by Oxford Properties, with design by WZMH Architects.
