UrbanToronto’s relocation to the St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood couldn’t have come at a better time — the area is buzzing with activity, whether it be soaring towers, low-rise infill or impressive new public buildings. One project that we’ve been watching in anticipation is Concert's The Berczy, located on the southwest corner of Front and Church. The 13-storey condominium is making steady progress in construction after a lengthy excavation period. Forum members Jack Landau and urbandreamer stopped by the site recently to snap some photos of the building that highlight its unique location.

The Berczy replaced what was a relatively uninspiring collection of structures that stretched south on Church from Front Street. The building is surrounded by heritage structures, resulting in a design from project architects Young + Wright / IBI Group that is decidedly more classic than what we usually see them produce. ERA Architects were brought on as heritage consultants to provide insight in this regard.

To the north directly across the street is the iconic Flatiron Building; to the west stretches a row of rare cast-iron façades from the 1870s and to the east is an old brick-and-timber conversion project.

The building will contain 161 units when finished. For a complete list of project renderings check out the dataBase listing below, or join the conversation on the associated thread.
