The majority of recent talk regarding the area around Cherry and Mill Streets has been focused on the highly anticipated West Don Lands redevelopment. While we here at UrbanToronto can’t wait to see the Canary District Condominiums start to rise, we’re equally excited to see Cityscape, Dundee Realty and architectsAlliance’s Clear Spirit condominium wrap up. Forum member Razz brings us today’s great views of the construction site, taken from the Pure Spirit condominium early last week.
The 40-storey tower demands attention as it rises sharply up from the historic Distillery District, contrasting architectsAlliance’s stark modernism with the Victorian warehouses below. While the area directly east and north is relatively barren as of now, it will soon be a thriving neighbourhood, assuming all goes to Pam Am plan.
Immediately off the northeast corner of the topped-off Clear Spirit condominium is Gooderham Condos, a 35-storey tower by the same development and design team. On the eastern edge of the district, across from the Young Centre for the Performing Arts, it's just getting to the top of its podium levels now.
The reuse and gentrification of the Distillery District has seen a dramatic increase in local tourism within the area, as well as a boom in real estate values for those living north in Corktown. We’ll be watching Clear Spirit over the coming weeks awaiting the installation of balcony glass, and hope to see more shots of the Distillery from this great vantage point.
