Heritage enthusiasts have been rejoicing with the news that the old Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce bank building at 197 Yonge is set to be restored. Today's Photo Of The Day, by UrbanToronto Forum member androiduk, shows the building in question which has sat empty since 1987.

The building was recently purchased by MOD Developments who also plan to add a 60-storey condo to be called Massey Tower as part of the redevelopment. No renderings yet but MOD has experience when it comes to projects like this: they are currently building 5 St. Joseph condos at Yonge and St. Joseph in partnership with Graywood Developments. Here's a look at that project.

The 45-storey modern tower is set back behind heritage buildings which will have their exteriors restored to their former glory. We expect the same should take place with 197 Yonge, which would be great news. Both buildings are by Hariri Pontarini Architects with ERA Architects handling the heritage aspects, while interiors are by Cecconi Simone and landscaping by Janet Rosenberg + Associates.
