Excavation is underway at the site of the Pemberton Group's two-tower-plus-townhouse project on Bay Street called U Condos. U, designed by architectsAlliance, will feature two point towers, one on St. Mary St. of 45 storeys, and one on Bay Street of 55 storeys. Midway between two other architectsAlliance projects, Menkes' Four Seasons Hotel and Residences, and Lanterra's Murano-Burano siblings, U Condos will be distinguished by the diagonal lines resembling swaying tree trunks introduced in the two buildings' balcony glazing.
This low-resolution rendering presents a bird's eye view of U Condos from beside the Manulife Centre south of Bloor Street. As well as the towers, the image shows some of the townhouses which will form the base of the complex along its Bay Street edge.
UrbanToronto member and moderator ShonTron caught this view from across Bay Street of work freshly underway at the start of the excavation process for the project. U Condos is replacing the parking lot of St. Michael's College at the University of Toronto.
UrbanToronto hopes to soon have higher resolution renderings to provide a better look at this handsome complex. You can join in the discussion of this project by clicking on the link below.
