The plan to turn Queens Quay into a beautiful world class street has been approved by John Gerretsen, Ontario’s Minister of the Environment. This follows approval by the City Of Toronto. The new Queens Quay will see two lanes on the south side of the street replaced by a linear park along with a rebuilt Martin Goodman Trail. The middle of the street will remain dedicated streetcar tracks with two lanes of east/west traffic left on the north end of the street.
Planning and design of the 3 km project is currently underway. Construction on the first phase, an 800-metre section of the street which will take 18 months to build, should start next year. It is budgeted at $48 million dollars. This budget also includes design work for the entire stretch of the roadway being rebuilt. Construction of the additional 2.2 km not included in phase one will be done once funding has been obtained.
Can't wait to see it completed as this will be a major step up for the city.
