Beaverhall Homes (Europa on College) and Graywood Developments (The Ritz-Calton) have teamed up to build a tower at Mercer and John in the Theatre District. The 33 storey Mercer (formerly known as 8 Mercer) is designed by Brisbin, Brook Beynon, or BBB Architects, who count Metro Hall right across the street, and several of Toronto's other significant buildings including the Air Canada Centre, the Rogers Centre, and 1 University amongst their work.

The Mercer will be located within a short walk of many theatres and performance venues, cinemas, professional sports facilities, plus several of the finest restaurants and nightspots. It's also a hop-skip-and-a-jump across the street to the west end of the PATH, and climate controlled access to the Financial District. Not a bad neighbourhood to engage the city from! Units start at $395,900 for a one bedroom with 519 square feet, and range up $1.7 million for a penthouse three-bedroom + den suite of 1,786 square feet, with all combinations in between. You may be familiar with the building's exterior,

Daytime Rendering of Mercer Condominiums

and now UrbanToronto has obtained new renders of the complex:

Lobby at the Mercer

The Lobby is marked by an elegant, restful, classic look; modern but with the warmth of wood.

2nd Floor Recreation Room at the Mercer

The second floor recreation facilities offer a more traditional look too: more Forest Hill drawing room than, say, Barcelona Pavilion.

Rooftop Courtyard Rendering

The podium's Rooftop Courtyard garden is planted in a formal style, with peristyle edges to complete the traditional look. While the tower features some brick on its south facade, the tower is throughly contemporary on this side.

Rooftop Plan

The plan of the rooftop and 6th floor includes a lounge which can be open to the garden, and quite interestingly, there is a theatre located at the west end of the rooftop in its own pavilion, which can be approached through the garden, or from a staircase from podium floors below. In good weather, the garden could provide a rather grand entrance for a gathering in the theatre: one does not usually expect to first go outside to go back in again in complexes like this!
