Today we are looking at the Bell Lightbox/Festival Tower. Developed by The Daniels Corporation, and designed by KPMB Architects, it will rise 42 storeys when completed. Located at King and John, it features a massive podium that will be the new home to the Toronto Film Festival. Above the podium the tower will be occupied by condos. To some the podium and tower overwhelm the cool restaurant strip on the south side of King. To others it helps cover up the Hyatt Hotel (formerly Holiday Inn) next door. We'll wait until the project is completed to say whether is does stick out or not.

The following shots come from urbandreamer who had this to say about the project: "I've decided I like this building, but think its main flaw is the wrong setting for this architectural style/massing. It would fit in better in the Yonge/Bloor area, or perhaps near Dundas Square. Here, it overwhelms the red brick 'hood. The second anti-urban crime committed is the blank wall facing Widmer--glass at street level would've made a nice cafe corner." Tell us what you think.
