TORONTO - Jim Lawson says Woodbine Entertainment wants to provide Canadian soccer with a national training centre.

Woodbine announced Wednesday it is partnering with private investors to build a soccer training facility and soccer-specific stadium. Woodbine has designated a portion of its land for construction of the venues with the goal of creating a centre of excellence for the sport in Canada.

Pretty good overall, albeit the 'modular' nature will probably make it look a bit like a temporary stadium in reality. An ~8,000 seater stadium will be really useful for Toronto. Now York Utd just need to find some more fans!

I wouldn’t put too much emphasis on the modular part. Pacific FC’s modular stadium looks great, and quite permanent.

Having just been to Woodbine to see new facilities I totally see this. With the casino, arena and this drawing people in and the surrounding restaurants, bars and hotel it is probably the tip of the iceberg.

Has this started construction? It seems like this has been on a back burner for a long time with no updates.

Its been a while since an annoucment has been made on this prject but the area has been cleared. The billboard that use to be on that spot is now removed.
