Didn't those Portman-designed hotels in the 70's have external elevators? I'm thinking of Peachtree Plaza in Atlanta for example.
 
None of the above.

I like the semi-exterior elevator on the Hilton at University & Richmond, though. It elevates the building above Painfully-Average Slab.
 
These designs were already thought out by an architect who decided that an exterior/transparent elevator system wasn't suitable. And I can't say I can picture how any of these buildings would suit such a thing. So, none of the above.
 
The King Edward. Just bolt a big, shiny, chrome-plated Zeidler-esque Habitrail tube to the side of it. Perfect.
