Where to stay cheap in NYC?

Last time I was there 2 years ago, I stayed at Days Inn in midtown. It was clean, central, 2 double beds, Starbucks across the street.... just what we needed. Best thing was the price, $79/night for wed/thurs, then it went up for the weekend rate to $99 or $109. That was 2 years ago October. Great rates.
