What's the future for the Conservative Party?

What is this crap?

For the best.
There's some good news. At least they're not accepting homophobic people for leadership, even if it's for another reason. Why don't we ban (explicitly?) sexist, racist, and/or homophobic people from running?

Incredibly dumb policy idea. Wow.

It subverts the very idea of an RRSP, duplicates the function of a TFSA, would cost billions in foregone tax revenue, w/the benefit going disproportionately to the well off.

Also, our home ownership rate, as a nation is greater not only than that of France, or the U.K, or Germany.............but of the U.S. one as well.

All while our real estate market hardly seems in need of a boost.

Really, you have to think long and hard do come up with ideas this bad, they just don't come naturally.

And yet, I am willing to wager that many would-be homebuyers will be interested in this idea.

People often like 'free money' (note the money were discussing is not the literal cash in the RRSP but the tax deferral that becomes a permanent tax cut subsidizing a home purchase).

People should also be careful what they like........in as much as were this passed it would 'goose' the housing market and likely drive up prices by 10% or more, almost, if not entirely erasing any benefit.

Government liberal and conservative need the Vancouver, and Toronto suburban homeowners vote who are living in houses they can't afford normally.

So they will do anything to keep the bubble afloat such as lower mortgage stress rules by this govt or this idea by Mckay.

Except, this idea from MacKay won't actually help anyone whose already bought a home they can't afford.

His idea has to do with down payments, not servicing a mortgage.

It will also do very little to improve affordability for anyone in the sub-middle income brackets or even the lower-middle portion, as said persons are unlikely to have large RRSPs from which to take funds.
