I finally decided to go out and do a photo reportage of my favourite place in Toronto. I just love the intimate urbanity of all the little nooks and crannies - I can't imagine that once upon a time, way before me, Yorkville was a hippie centre, a much less "fortunate" incarnation than today's. I wanted to take pictures of some of the vistas I'd see most days and stand in awe in.. Quite frankly, this is where I'd love to see myself in a few years.
This thread is a bit picture heavy - so sorry in advance. 109 pictures in total, but I already cut out over 150.. This is the bare minimum:)

Welcome To Yorkville

We begin our tour here:
PICT1184.jpg

Even on Yonge, the Yorkville feel begins
PICT0948.jpg

I always thought MTV chose the most random location...
PICT0955.jpg

A bit of old and new with 18 Yorkville
PICT0959.jpg

One of the best pieces of public art in the city
PICT0964.jpg

And one of the best parquettes around...
PICT0965.jpg

I still can't believe the prices, yet it is their flagship afterall
PICT0972.jpg

I bet they're Italian.. other than that, I once had a dream with that clock in it
PICT0973.jpg

Ah, we finally begin to see the Yorkville crowd, in front of Poooosateri's
PICT0974.jpg

Yes, they all have lots of money...
PICT0979.jpg

It's as if the streets around here were meant to sound expensive, Bellair? God...
PICT0981.jpg

1 St. Thomas is by far one of the nicest additions to the area, great ending to the Bellair strip
PICT0982.jpg

A bit of juxtaposition with its more contemporary cousin
PICT0984.jpg

Bikes and Mercedes do mix, I guess?
PICT0985.jpg

Cafe Nervosa sounds funny if you think of the Serbian meaning
PICT0988.jpg

So here's Dolce, now where is that naughty Gabbana?
PICT0989.jpg

Ah, across the street!
PICT0990.jpg

Today was a bad day for Ferrari spotting, but plenty of German cars
PICT0995.jpg

Everyone looks so good...
PICT0996.jpg

Great address
PICT0999.jpg

Remys probably has one of the best outdoor patios for people watching
PICT1000.jpg

18 Yorkville against Regency, great clashing of styles there...
PICT1001.jpg

Old York Lane is absolutely the cutest thing ever, in an expensive way of course
PICT1003.jpg

That tower at Bloor and Bellair has a great shape
PICT1013.jpg

Good to know the Regency Sales Centre has become a Corbo boutique
PICT1014.jpg

This little laneway is charming
PICT1015.jpg

I did not know we had Sotheby's here...
PICT1016.jpg

Corbo numero deux
PICT1017.jpg

This is where I studied for my French exam
PICT1022.jpg

Once upon a time, my dad managed the Classical Record's Shop - right around the corner from here
PICT1024.jpg

I thought this looked very English
PICT1029.jpg

This a bit more Italian I suppose
PICT1033.jpg

She must be wearing Gucci...
PICT1037.jpg

She however, is not.
PICT1038.jpg

So according to this, if you're a man and you need Versace - go to Harry's!
PICT1041.jpg

Great spot for people watching
PICT1043.jpg

Lots of Holt's bags around
PICT1044.jpg

The Regency pokes about
PICT1047.jpg

Even the Hondas look nice here
PICT1048.jpg

As a kid, my parents couldn't get me away from this fountain
PICT1050.jpg

Chunks missing from 110 Cumberland
PICT1052.jpg

This passage reminds me a lot of Geneva
PICT1054.jpg

Everything sounds decadent around here...
PICT1057.jpg

And now toward Bloor! (Lets not miss the sexy cars, shall we?)
PICT1060.jpg

The Four Seasons will soon have a taller brother
PICT1061.jpg

Ah oui.. Tiffany's. I really liked the movie btw
PICT1064.jpg

Some girl did a project on Vuitton in Business.. I had to go to Bloor street afterward
PICT1069.jpg

I once wondered where those stairs lead.. Then I found out and was thoroughly dissapointed
PICT1072.jpg

Gucci beside a Lululemon.. Kinda underwhelming
PICT1073.jpg

Hermes.. They make those nice scarves?
PICT1076.jpg

Temporary Chanel, in the old Grand & Toy
PICT1079.jpg

So a whole store for overpriced underwear? Hmmm...
PICT1082.jpg

The way this building wraps around the church is beautiful...
PICT1083.jpg

Le Four Seasons
PICT1084.jpg

And of course the crystal
PICT1086.jpg

Bikers beware, you're in for a scare (on Bloor that is)
PICT1087.jpg

Just to know we're still on Bloor afterall...
PICT1088.jpg

This colonnade is really cute
PICT1089.jpg

More oulala chichi boutiques
PICT1093.jpg

Hyatt
PICT1096.jpg

This made my trip worthwhile.. I'd sell my soul for this Lamborghini Fantasma, seriously
PICT1097.jpg

Probably one of the best done condos in the city
PICT1099.jpg

This gate is one of the best kept secrets of Yorkville, what lies behind it is absolutely beautiful!
PICT1100.jpg

A bit of crystal and Hyatt action
PICT1106.jpg

Back onto Bloor we go
PICT1107.jpg

Club Monaco's flagship
PICT1109.jpg

Puma is the newcomer here, while Mont Blanc remains a great staple of the area. The hoarding beyond it is for the new Sephora flagship
PICT1111.jpg

Just so you know, there's a sale at Noir
PICT1112.jpg

Great choice.. chocolates and overpriced shirts
PICT1113.jpg

Some of the trees on Bloor looked pretty sickly
PICT1114.jpg

Bang and Olufsen, that's right.
PICT1115.jpg

Very NYC perspective (oops, I did go there)
PICT1118.jpg

Holt's, more venerable than ever
PICT1119.jpg

She must see something she likes in Max Mara's new collection. I'd still prefer Prada though, personally
PICT1120.jpg

They've been renovating this for months, and it should've opened last month!
PICT1122.jpg

It seems the new Chanel will have two stories
PICT1123.jpg

Retail...
PICT1126.jpg

Who wants a Rolex? That's right, the hoarding beside the Royal de Versailles is to become a Rolex boutique
PICT1127.jpg

Now that's a fine girl, right there
PICT1128.jpg

Indiva and Tiffany's, beautifully complimenting each other
PICT1129.jpg

The interior of the renovated Capezio looks very Liebskindesque
PICT1130.jpg

As a kid I'd get tortured when my mom would drag me into David's.. Now it looks nicer though
PICT1131.jpg

Some great band playing some Peruvian Carribean fusion
PICT1132.jpg

Birks' flagship looks nicer zoomed in
PICT1133.jpg

The crystal really impacts Bloor
PICT1134.jpg

Salvatore Ferragamo, in Toronto? Nope, just a part of Holt's - in Vancouver though, sure! (ugh)
PICT1135.jpg

Now it gets more shopping mall
PICT1136.jpg

You have your H&M
PICT1137.jpg

And Swarovski.. They even opened up in Belgrade
PICT1140.jpg

The Zara.. also recently opened in Belgrade (along with Escada)
PICT1141.jpg

Cartier's temporary space on St. Thomas is extremely charming
PICT1145.jpg

I bet she's asking him to buy more...
PICT1149.jpg

Now a bit out of Yorkville, but still around!
Nice wedding scene at Vic College
PICT1152.jpg

I'm in England now
PICT1154.jpg

Yep, that's where Harry Potter first met Voldemort, remember?
PICT1156.jpg

Looking up venerable Avenue Road
PICT1159.jpg

A nice monument
PICT1161.jpg

King George.. the somethingth
PICT1162.jpg

Peekaboo Britan
PICT1163.jpg

We have some great statues around the legislature
PICT1168.jpg

And nice archways
PICT1167.jpg

Soon to have a very big, very expensive, and very nice building anchoring it
PICT1169.jpg

The touristy shot...
PICT1170.jpg

Foster vs old school.. I like the older more
PICT1171.jpg

More statues...
PICT1177.jpg

Time to go home.. I'm exhausted
PICT1175.jpg

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this detailed trip through our "Mink Mile" This will be the first of a couple of tours I take through some of my favourite parts of Toronto... See you again soon!

Great tour... thanks for posting. Makes me want to hit the summertime streets of TO. Definitely a gem of a neighbourhood.

Thanks for the photos Filip. I work in the Yorkville area and from winter to summer, this area is always alive and buzzing

The trees on Bloor are terrible and yes, embarrassing. Good for you for noticing.

Edward VII and his hoss: we got it from India in 1949, after they kicked the Brits out.

I permitted the cute, touchy-feely yet pushy N()IR salesman to dress me up in several nice jackets yesterday afternoon, but I had no intention of buying anything.

:D

Yes.. that's the one! I knew it was a "gift" from India.. Anyway...
The trees on Bloor are to be replaced by already grown London Plane trees from what I remember...

Thanks for the comments guys, I appreciate it:)

Actually, that statue of Edward VII Omn:Britt:Rex:Et:Ind:Imp was purchased by Hal Jackman. Shame he didn't buy the plinth too - the plaques that explains all this to those who bother to read have to lay on the ground as a result.

Jackman has done a lot for the city. Someone should fund a statue of him (bushiest eyebrows ever!), and find a place on the University Ave. median, perhaps near Dundas, for it.

London plane trees

Will they survive any better than native trees? If not, why bother?

We fool ourseoves sometimes by planting these trees along the streets. More productive to plant trees in the parks and open areas of ravines, and find a better form of street furniture or forms of creative placemaking, for the streets themselves.
