Hey everyone, I've been reading UT for roughly a year now but only recently registered. I'm 18 and live in boring Northern Ontario. Anyway, my brother is playing in the "OHL Cup" hockey tournament in Mississauga(in March) and I have a few questions about various things.

The whole tournament takes place at the Hershey Centre. If I took a bus from the H.C., how easy would it be to get to a nearby subway station? I've rode the Toronto Subway before and find it the best mode of transportation. Quick, reliable, cheap.

On an average day(during non-peak hours), how long would it take to drive to the Yorkdale Mall from the Hershey Centre?

Finally, this question will probably vary from person-to-person. Where is the best jerked chicken in the city? Lol, I love it and haven't had any in such a long time.

I probably will have more questions later but these are all I can think of at the moment.

Sorry if these questions are obvious. Even though I've been to Toronto on a number of occasions I've never stayed in Mississauga. It's probably going to be much harder to get to the places I want but at least I'll be in the GTA as opposed to way up here.
 
I played in the OHL Cup in 2001. Congrats to your brother and his team on making it that far, because it really is quite the accomplishment. Good luck to him!

Unfortunately I can't answer any of your questions. I'm not entirely familiar with the Mississauga area.
 
Off Peak( ie never) Yorkdale to Hershey Centre, 30 mins.
 
Hey Gooser! Welcome to the forum and thanks for you completely reasonable and well-written questions.

To travel between the Hershey Centre and the subway, you have to use Mississauga Transit. They have a trip planner to help you find schedules.

Route 27 travels from just outside the Hershey Centre to Islington Subway station during the afternoon rush, and from the subway to the arena during the AM rush. During other times there are a number of alternatives, so I would suggest using the trip planner.

Google says that it should take 20 minutes to drive from the Hershey Centre to Yorkdale. I'd give it at least half an hour because you can get bad traffic at any time of the day.

Can't help you with the Jerk Chicken.

Hmm, that sounds a little erotic.

BUT... If you want it you might want to search yellowpages.ca, although be careful when you search for jerk. May come up with seedy reponses for all I know. :D

Lol, it wasn't meant to be erotic but I can now see why it might sound like it. I'll be extra careful when looking for a restaurant that sells it haha.
 
I'm not very familiar with jerk chicken, but there are a few places in the "entertainment district" (around Peter and John streets, downtown), including The Real Jerk (http://www.therealjerk.com). I hope this helps.

For my money I would go along Eglinton West between Allan & Keele. That is the closest approximation we have of a 'Little Jamaica' and is pretty easy to get to by transit.
 
With all respect to CDL, Mississauga route 27 will be pretty much useless unless you happen to be going eastbound into Toronto in the PM rush and westbound in the AM rush.

Your best bet if travelling to the subway is probably route 39 west to Hurontario, then route 19 south to the main transit terminal at City Centre, and from there a choice of several routes (3, 20, 26, 76) will take you to the subway. I realize that involves two transfers and sounds complicated, but route 19 is the busiest in the city (ie., you won't have to wait long), and you won't have to wait long at City Centre either, to find a bus going to the subway. Check the MT website.

The Real Jerk isn't anywhere near the Entertainment District - it's at Queen East and Broadview, and Gooser, I think you would find it worth the streetcar ride. There's also Irie on Queen West at Bathurst (edge of the Entertainment District, that one) and while I have not eaten there, I hear it's good.

I would honestly just suck it up and spend a few bucks on a cab to kipling and jump on the subway there. Shouldn't that be about $12-15?
 
He comes from a hockey family. Odds are they have a mini-van. I'm sure his Mom will be all for taking it in to town for some shopping.

Lol yeah we'll be taking our car down there but my mom is petrified of driving anywhere south on Sudbury.

Another thing I'm wondering about is Raptors tickets. If I went to the ACC on a gameday, would it be realistic to get a couple of relatively cheap(under $100) tickets? or are they usually all sold out by that time?
