TTC Launches Search for New Chief Executive
TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - March 26, 2007) - The Toronto Transit
Commission today launched an international search for a permanent Chief General
Manager. Gary Webster, former General Manager of Operations, has been Interim
Chief General Manager since Rick Ducharme resigned last June.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the chief executive will contribute
leadership, strategy, direction and enthusiasm to a staff of 12,000 and manage a
total budget of more than $1 billion. The capital budget for 2007 is in excess
of $700 million. The chief executive will also oversee implementation of the
Toronto Transit City - Light Rail Plan.
The TTC is the third largest transit operation, by ridership, in North
America, after New York City and Mexico City. It provides service to a City of 2.5
million with annual ridership of about 450 million. Bus, streetcar and
subway/rt routes cover more than 4,700 miles and the fleet includes 1,600 buses and
1,000 streetcars, subway and rt cars.
