TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

At some point, TTC is going to longer cars to handle ridership increase with either 36 or 42 m cars as it becomes more expensive to have more driver on the route as well cars.
What makes you think the TTC is going to get cars that are any longer?

You have to take into account Toronto's geography into play; there are a number of intersections where if a streetcar was any longer then they already are today, there would be safety issues (ie: Queen/Lansdowne, Dundas/Lansdowne, etc.). And that's not even taking into consideration many on-street streetcar platorms where it's physically not possible to increase the length of them.

It's not completely out of the question, that they'd just use them on some routes - with protected ROWs. Jane and St. Clair in particular come to mind. (at the same time, converting St. Clair to a Flexity Freedom-like vehicle also wouldn't strike me as impossible).

I do wonder though, how long before they break Spadina given how busy it is - though the termini do make that a challenge.

4461 has reenter service on 501

4463 is at Leslie

4462 the last I heard was supposed to be in Lambton yard over a week ago and no idea if that is true.

This leaves 4464 and 4465 to be return from Quebec to close the book on repairs for welding issues.

Still leaves 4471 and 4478 that been out of service since 2018 and should arrive in 2023 as fully rebuilt cars or new ones along with the start of seeing 4604 to 4664

Meaning what? Surely manufacturing brand new cars as replacements for 4471 and 4478 would be the more expensive option?

I have no first hand info on the 2 cars how they look like.

I don't know what you call a strip car of all interior items that had to be removed to clean it from the flood damage??

The only cost between this strip car to a new one is the cost of the shell. The the roof power equipment and wheels can be transfer to a new shell.

We will have to wait until 2023 to see what show up for those 2 cars.

4462 was off loaded last Tuesday and was tag after sitting in Lambton yard a month.

4464 has been off loaded today and heading to the Barns unless I have miss something. It was loaded for QC on May 17

This leaves 4460 (127 days) and 4465 (86 Days) still to be return

4464 has reenter service today on route 505 after arriving Aug 15

Looks like 4462 could reenter service tomorrow after arriving Aug 09

4465 could be off loaded tomorrow as it been in Lambton yard the last week. It was shipped May 25

Where is 4460 is unknown considering it was shipped April 12. 4461-4464 have been return and reenter service that were shipped for repairs after it

End of Sept could close the book on weld repairs and look to 2023 for delivery of the next batch of 60 cars as well 4471 and 4478.

4471 and 4478 been out of service since Aug 2018 and sitting up in TB since 2019. When they do enter service, they will be the youngest of the current fleet by 4 years.

4462 reenter service on Sept 6 on route 503 after 27 days.

No sign of 4465 or 4460 yet considering 4465 been in Lambton close to 2 weeks.

Looks like 4465 has finally been off loaded after sitting in Lambton Yard almost a month. Loaded May 24 for QC. If current time frame remain, it will reenter service the week of Oct 2

4460 will be the last car to be off loaded and close the book on cars going to/from Quebec. It will be fully close once it return to service in October.

September 29, 2022, marks 10 years since the delivery of the first Flexity Outlook car, no. 4400. Unfortunately, the car has been out of service for a month now and is not present for the celebration of its 10th birthday.

I know that they have been controversial, but personally I have found the cars to be far more agreeable than most modern transit vehicles of any persuasion. They are one of the best things running right now and I always enjoy any chance I get to ride on them. I can definitely think of many LRVs, such as the Skoda Forcity from Prague, or the Citadis Trams in Lyon, that would make for far less palatable replacements than what we ended up getting. Looking forward to the next generation of cars.

How's the order for those desperately needed next 60 coming along?

🤣
Late 2023 for start of delivery the last I heard.

4460 still not return after being loaded 170 days ago and the longest being off site since late 2019. 4461-4465 that were shipped after 4460 have return. All have return to service with 4465 expected back in service this week.

Could be using 4460 as an mockup for changes to the next batch, has an major issue and no clue why the long delay.
