Just a quick nod to a couple of tree planting events happening the next couple of weeks.

I was out at one this morning, put on by Friends of the Don East (www.fode.ca)
up at Windfield Park, that's along Wilket Creek from just north of Post Road to York Mills, between Leslie and Bayview.

They put in 125 trees this morning, and added nicely to the local forest there.

There will be more events in the next two weeks, one down at Taylor Creek Park, next Saturday, at 10am, just off Dawes Road (east side);

Another back the Windfield Park in the same area, just below the Banbury Community Centre, in 2 weeks, that's Sat. Oct 31, 10am.

For those of you looking for something outdoorsy to do on a brisk Saturday morning, I'm sure your presence would be welcome.

Not everyone seems to like trees. Here's a link to an article the tree planting program in New York City.

The chain-saw killer struck in the dead of night, targeting young victims in a public park. Locals out for a Sunday walk found the remains the next morning: 12 oak and cherry saplings, their slender trunks sawed through, their delicate branches dangling like broken limbs above the freshly tilled soil.

Two trees planted in Queens were yanked from the dirt and hurled into the East River after a man complained that they were blocking his water view.

People have driven cars onto sidewalks to block tree-planters.
