" but the mix of stores just doesn't work
As a local to the area, I could never quite put a finger on why it never felt homey to shop or even pass through here on my way to the subway. There was an area on the main floor where if you stood right by the escalator, in front of the Miniso, the scent of the sushi place downstairs and the Moe's Pretzel (when it was open) provided some wacky smells.

Damn that's quite the indictment on the retail in this area that an LCBO would be an improvement lol

I don't think people are really arguing that it would be an improvement but rather an anchor to allow other tenants to do well.

It's interesting to compare Y&S center to Y&E center, both by riocan both underwent renovations.

^I get it from a draw/economic perspective. But it's not like it's some high end, quality establishment. That's what I was getting at. It's a very basic amenity. Guess this mall needs all the help it can get.

Why do you think it's riocan's fault though, I'm sure they would have loved some of the aforementioned tenants but I doubt there was interest. Cineplex leaving had nothing to do with them, I'm surprised it lasted so long given how empty the empress cineplex is even today (prior to covid) !
True with wasn’t there fault it was just not enough tenants who secured spaces also there are not that many big YSC retail units I have seen. So let’s say a Sport Check or an Indigo would want to expand in the area where would they be in the mall?

I think there's a more complex dynamic...like what even is modern retail with so much online shopping? Many other regional malls have been faltering for some time. As someone else said, other retail destinations have reasons to be there. Eaton Centre is downtown, with so many within walking distance and is often used as a thoroughfare. Yorkdale's got momentum from all the strong retail they can attract. Heck, even Promenade is useful as a community gathering place (well, putting aside COVID).

Hopefully, as COVID fades away, whenever that may be, YSC will find its place. There certainly is a local population with all the buildings attached that could sustain it, not to mention all the other buildings within walking distance!

I think Longo's, Dollarama, Shoppers, are all steady if a bit boring tenants.

LA Fitness takes up so much space, but I suppose it is a draw as well.

I wonder if there's an appetite to have more of a 'pop-up' style, or local market style retail. Not a flea market, but kind of a year-round Etsy style maker place. I recall there's supposed to be a farmer's market in the retail space under construction in one of the condos near Empress.

Re Cactus Club restaurant;
I called their head office in Vancouver and asked if they were going to open the mall site or had they backed out? In a sense, they gave me the finger and said, "we're a private company and we don't have to give you that information." I called another source and was told it's still a viable project, stopped because of Covid and will open some time next year.

A recent count showed 21 units available for lease . There are a couple new stores willing to take a chance. The "Shoe Company" is moving into the former 6745 sq. ft. Dollarama location and "Omni Palace Noodle and Grill" is going into 994 sq.ft. between Basil Box and Five Guys Burgers on Yonge St.

The “Shoe Company” is part of Ohio-based Designer Shoe Warehouse who brought out “Town Shoes” only to shut all their stores a couple years ago,... https://www.blogto.com/fashion_style/2018/08/town-shoes-closing-all-its-stores-toronto/
Now, it seems their new store at Yonge-Sheppard Centre will be named “Town Shoes”

Listing for FLOCK - whereas some of the others focus on selling the franchise,... this one is "Suit Any Type Of Concept". Of the Yonge frontage sites, FLOCK site is odd in that it still has the "moat" - still have to climb up stairs (inside) to get to store level.

What's your point? Your suggestions makes no sense with what was posted.
The original post contains a cell phone pic of a computer screen. Johnny Au is telling him how to take a screenshot. Chill.

Attn; SunnyRay;

You recently said, " It seems their new store at Yonge-Sheppard Centre will be named “Town Shoes.” That guess is incorrect. If you had asked the company owners, they would have told you the name will be "The Shoe Company."

If you are a lazy Mac-zombie like me, and going to crop a screenshot later in other software (you can even crop it in Preview), ⌘+Shift+3 will take a full pic of your computer screen (including all the porn sites listed in your bookmark toolbar).

THE PIVOT; FINAL CLEAN-UP

A labor intensive job over the last 2 weeks to clean all interior glass, balcony exterior glass and mop all floors. The large black and white metal panels and adjoining glass were cleaned using a swing stage. The roof-top beehives were prepped for fall-winter by the resident bee-keeper who didn't take any chances in his "spacesuit."
