Toronto Cherry House at Canary Landing | 50.32m | 13s | Dream | COBE Architects

That seems an astute observation.

It does seem unlikely from the renders that a 37ft ceiling height is intended on each floor!

🤣
Fixed. Old system was in ft, new system in metres. Some of the conversions got screwed up.

Here is a reminder of the locations of blocks 3,4 and 7 as well as an article written one year ago today about this project here on UrbanToronto. https://urbantoronto.ca/news/2019/10/west-don-lands-development-include-30-affordable-rentals

I'm looking forward to this one, both on its own merits, and also to fill in those parking lots with some urbanity. The Canary District has a few issues, but one of them is how it feels so disconnected from the rest of the city; approaching from the west, as you leave the Distillery, you just see a desert of parking and vacant lots. This development (and the first nations resource centre across the street, and the development at Mill & Cherry) will really help knit points east into the fabric of the city.

The Province has just issued Ministerial Zoning Orders for these blocks!

https://www.ontario.ca/laws/statute/90p13

Once you open this document, click on the tab titled Regulations. It will bring you to the page where the zoning orders are listed.

O. Reg 596/20 applies to Blocks 3, 4 & 7

O. Reg 595/20 applies to Blocks 17 and 26

O. Reg 594/20 applies to Block 20.

🤨

Hmmmm

I guess city council's upcoming vote becomes redundant. I wonder what got the province so interested?

This would completely eliminate challenges to municipal zoning at the OMB. What developers buy is what they get (unless the province changes its mind).

The order seems to be tailored to the project we've seen, anyway: "the maximum height is 51.8 metres and 13 storeys."

Someone probably made a generous (and totally unrelated) contribution to someone or some thing!

Hearing that the same thing happened to the site at 153 Eastern Avenue (the current Dominion Foundries Heritage Building), anyone have any information on this?

There is a separate thread on these blocks.
