For months, I really thought the wood at the slabs were rigid insulation awaiting metal panels. Mind you, I was always on the Gardiner when I viewed it. Stumbled upon this thread and I am quite surprised that's the design intent. I think it would have looked better if it was in-plane with the glazing, but maybe I'll grow to like it when I walk by closer.
