Toronto Union Station Revitalization | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto | NORR

I ment at that spot in the photos. Are they currently working on digging out the for a new subway platform or are they digging for the new concourse already.

The City is replacing the 'bridge' which goes over the 'moat' from Front Street to the main entrances of Union Station. They have just about finished the west 50% (as shown in the pics) and when that section is completely done they will open that half and move to the eastern half. As far as I know they are NOT rebuilding the two bridges at either end - going to the east and west wings. It is all supposed to be finished by early 2010 and was done because it was about to collapse.

Has there been any progress on the new subway platform since the underground water main work was completed ...many many months ago?

10% spread in price is not bad.

Only 3 bidders and that surprising.

Couple months and work will get underway.

I can't wait to see what they come up with for doing the train shed. No overhead cranes, no on-site storage of material, no laydown areas, it's being done in like 10 phases (two tracks at a time), this easily has to be one of the most complicated jobs ever done in Toronto.

Why wouldn't they have cranes and space to put things? It sounds like they will have two tracks and a whole platform which reaches a whole city block at a time. I can't imagine putting up the new central roof and supporting columns without a crane.

That's a big improvement over the current union station. There's actually more space to stand while waiting for the train. And there's more stairs to go up and down rather than creating line ups going up or down with narrow stairways.
