Toronto U of T: Centre for Civilizations, Cultures, and Cities | 42.75m | 9s | U of T | DS + R

Sounds pretty reasonable for the site (esp. when compared to the 40s condo). It will be interesting to see how they fit the program into it - I imagine the performance hall and the museum will be the most difficult.

Let's say that it comes out around 60 metres then, with an average height of just under 5 metres per floor since it's institutional. That's high enough to appear above the ROM when driving south on Avenue Road, and not so high that it should impinge upon the Queens Park view when driving north on University Avenue. It should provide the U of T and the Jewish Museum a local signpost on the sky too.

Anyway, as there's no architect attached yet, it will be a long time before this comes into better focus.

Looking at the St. George Campus Secondary Plan, the view at the Park Hyatt hotel will looking something like this:

Those images are rather obsolete already, especially the Proposed Campus one, with an outdated Daniels Faculty plan on Spadina, the previous plan for the Student Tower at the Goldring Ctr for High Perf Sport, and missing, built, or obsolete approved buildings by others. I wonder why this image wasn't updated.

The referenced masterplan link is a fairly old document, it was published in June 2011 - hence all the misinformation.

Interesting--they want to put a mid-rise on the s/e corner of Bloor/Spadina, where the sociology building currently is. Hmm. Be interesting to see how that goes down.

Edit: also notice that the well-known plans to develop a student residence on the n/w corner of Spadina/Sussex isn't in that plan.

"For example, one of the major projects [President Gertler] hopes to see succeed is a new campus-based institute for the study of cities.

“It would possibly include a school for new mayors,” he said, modelled in part on the summer school for new university presidents Dr. Gertler attended at Harvard the summer before he took over the president’s job."

Would not mind if the Planetarium was replaced by something of the calibre of Vagelos Education Center. It's actually a bit too flashy IMO, but scale is quite similar to what's being proposed for this site.

Any project should ideally have some connection to the ROM- imagine if there was a de Young-style observation deck on top for ROM visitors.
