That's what it was I couldn't remember exactly what it was all I remember that it was going to be assessable to the public originally.
The public can still assess it. Not sure about access though.

This is my favorite station. When I first caught a glimpse of the aperture with a view of the snow-covered 'amphitheatre' (see picture), I thought it was a stained glass or mural. Too bad the walls at the platform level look old and patchy (bad paintwork)

This particular project disappoints - the finishing (esp. concrete) is rather poor - it is not up to the standards one associate with F+P (TTC, perhaps), and didn't compare well to that of the Highway 407 station. The dynamic LCD art illegible to the point where I will call that piece a complete failure.

Can we assume because of the water stains on the platform walls that it has simply the wettest of the ground conditions on the line (except for VMC which has 4 dozen pumps keeping it dry apparently)? They should probably paint the walls the colour of water stain here, and then reverse out the type in white.

Not sure that water stain makes for a particularly lovely paint colour though ;).

Actually I wasn't even referring to the platform walls given that's bit of a lost cause - but how the X beams and V columns look awfully splotchy/streaky, and the elevator shaft and the concrete structure feels like an afterthought with a talc-like finish. It doesn't compare well to the bare concrete at the much older Canary Wharf station (nevermind the precast units at Bilbao Metro). The terrazzo also look oddly unpolished - it doesn't seem like it's a mere issue of salt stains.

Also, the complete lack of proper landscaping beyond what's in the planted lightwell is very disappointing given the nature of the site relative to the York campus - like would it have killed to use those hexagonal floor paving in the exterior floor of the lightwell in the immediate street level vicinity of the entrance pavilion?

The platform walls are definitely a lost cause, and every single one of them will end up looking like the grimy mess that Lawrence West station looks like today. However in this case, York University will probably look even worse after the 50 year mark.
