now that the support columns for the heritage facade are down can they *finally* end the lane closure on Adelaide? It's made for a very unsafe cycling condition for years now.
I passed by yesterday evening, and there is a large trench behind the Adelaide hoarding, so I'm guessing there's some utility and sidewalk work left to do before they can bump the hoarding back a few metres.

I know it's just facadism which is a shame, but this is some gorgeous heritage retention.
It sure is ! And it would be nice to see the developer give the facade a nice clean acidic wash. To enhance the details on the facade as seen in the photos up above!

I can't quite put my finger on it but heritage always seems more convincing when they retain in place as done here rather than deconstruct and construct. This appears so far to be working out well as a compromise between quality preservation and an increase in density.

I was familiar with the inside of the building. The interior was not worth saving and would have resulted in a unusable floorplate for modern office/commercial use.

The facadism heritage retention here is a fantastic outcome.

Boy, was that ever a tight elevator too!
OT: Was it one where you had to operate it with a big lever? I worked in an elder office building with one of those....suffice to say, I took the stairs a lot. >.<
