I don't think it's the renovations itself (doubt artists care that much about it), but more the group that's taken it over and trying to make it an events destination.
The renovations are to ensure the fan experience is optimal, which will help generate future visits.
They're not f*cking around when they stated their intent. It's not even opened yet and they've got more non-sports bookings that I've seen in a while.
Personally, I prefer a more intimate venue for concerts around the size of Massey Hall or Hamilton Place (or smaller). Of course, the artists I enjoy don't play bigger venues like arenas anyways.
There's nothing that's scheduled so far that I have any remote interest in seeing. But I'm not their target audience, so it doesn't matter. Plenty of people are interested.
Very promising signs so far. I hope the interior renovation really makes the experience that much better.
