This was a big screw up. By providing the dog park with the absolute bare minimum amount of space, they inadvertently created one of the district's only cozy, intimate, human-scaled places. This little spot will be even better when the trees grown up. The exposed wood does a great job of helping frame the space. Clearly not meeting the objective of providing an expanse of paving stone and endless walls of glass.

Is there any chance they switch up phase 2 and make it residential, instead of another commercial building? Aware that neither market is great at the moment...

Don't know the financials but live/work lofts in a new mass timber building on the waterfront would certainly be of some interest to buyers.... one day.

Interesting/good news! FAT (Fashion Art Toronto) is using 20,000sf of space here for its events in November. While not a tenant it greatly increases the use at this end of QQE.

Interesting, when I was on a tour of the building in the summer, they told us that they normally build their wood buildings with no tenants signed up and find they attract them only after people see the space. This is exactly the kind of event where potential tenants can see and rave about the space and, maybe, then sign leases.

I remember I passed by this site a long time ago and I didn’t know then what is supposed to be built here, I just saw a picture on a fence of phase 2, there was a tropical forest or something like that. And my imagination told me that it might be a kind of multi level indoor public space park/garden with an artificial waterfall(s) from very top and plenty of different plants (I found and attached a few images that convey my vision of it) Since this is indoor garden, it could maintain specific climate and have plants that are not possible to see in Toronto. Such place could also integrate unique cafes and SPA studios. I know it’s something that will never see the light of a day anywhere in Toronto, but I wanted to share my thoughts with you guys , imagine how cool it would be to have something like that

The difference between Therme and The Jewel@Changi Airport, Singapore (pictured above) is that the latter is free for everyone to enjoy (no admission fee). You’re right, though, it could never be built in Toronto, because the City will never spend that much money to build something so extravagant. Remember the uproar over pink umbrellas at Sugar Beach? That’s a drop in the ocean compared to the cost of building something like The Jewel.

Anyone have any insight on how the GB residency in Canary has been doing? Generally feels dead over there. Not sure if I expected a lot of street activity, but it’s always been quiet.
