Even more confusing, is that the north side of Eglinton is even numbers, and the south side is odd numbers - which would point at this being the south side

Does appear to be south side. The odd numbered civic address being south side (the general standard for Toronto streets) is consistent with the plan schematic shown in the OMB decision - the site being on the south side of Eglinton, between Don Mills Road and Ferrand Drive.

There's a rather old (and odd) mnemonic rhyme on street numbering in Toronto that we published over the years in the MapArt Toronto & Area and Golden Horseshoe Atlases. It goes…

First it rained
And then it blew
And then it hailed
And then it snew
S - N - E - W
Odd Even Odd Even

by which you are meant to remember that Odd numbers are on the South and East sides of roads in Toronto, and Even numbers on the North and West.

Lindvest announces Sonic Condominiums at Eglinton Avenue and Don Mills Road

Hot on the heels of the successful B. Streets Condos at Bloor Street and Bathurst Street in downtown Toronto, Lindvest has just announced plans for its next condo project in the city.

Sonic Condominiums will be a two tower development located at Eglinton Avenue and Don Mills Road, just a short stroll away from the future Don Mills Station of the Eglinton Crosstown.

“It’s a fantastic location at a major city hub, which is poised for incredible growth,” said Joseph Alberga, Director of Sales and Marketing at Lindvest.

“Steps away from the upcoming Metrolinx Eglinton Crosstown Station, and next door to the DVP, it makes it an unbelievable opportunity to be well connected to the downtown core and all Toronto has to offer, minus the congestion.”

Not only will residents have convenient access to public transportation and highways, but they’ll also be close to the Shops at Don Mills, Real Canadian Superstore, the Ontario Science Centre, Aga Khan Museum and Flemingdon Park Golf Course.

The first phase of the project consists of 320 suites crafted by renowned interior design firm Union31, within a modern 28-storey tower by Page + Steele IBI Group Architects.

The development will include over 25,000 square feet of amenities, including a well-equipped fitness centre, yoga studio, steam rooms, screening/music room, hobby room and a guest suite.

Other amenities include a concierge, party rooms, pet spa, as well as an impressive rooftop entertainment area complete with barbecues, dining lounge, fire pit, cabanas and sunning lounge.

Even more amenity space is located right outside the doors in the professionally landscaped community park. Designed by award-winning landscape architecture and urban design firm NAK Design Strategies, the extensive greenspace will feature a walking path, exercise equipment, a children’s play area, water features, and plenty of seating areas for rest and relaxation.

Suites at Sonic Condos start from the low $200,000s and are available in a variety of layouts from cosy studios to family-friendly three bedroom suites.

Minus the congestion?

Regardless, I don't see the joy of having hundreds of cars constantly zooming by at high speed. I would much rather be downtown.

The developer went with HP for B Street Condos; why not go with them here, or another quality firm? Why is it that the suburbs always get P+S and Kirkor galore? Is the thinking that suburbanites are less sophisticated and therefore have lower expectations? It's bad enough that we have to drive everywhere out here, and getting one ugly development after another are just added knees to the groin.

lower real estate prices means they don't have the budget to go with high end architects, generally. Even if they went with HP they likely would have ended up with a basic building.

This is such a central location, however, which offers some of the greatest views in the city; not to mention the proximity to the DVP, Don Mills and the future LRT. You'd think this area could demand higher prices. Sail Condos on Sheppard is in a much worse location, yet the developer has decided to go with a design that is really creative and would cost more to build than the typical P+S design at a similar scale.

Is good design really that more expensive?

As an aside, I'm not too crazy about this tower townhouse thing we keep building in Toronto.

This site is rather awkward, in the middle of a block. A tower - retail setup wouldn't make sense. It looks good to me for its location. The parking lots around it are going to have be developed carefully when they do develop, however.

Is this actually on the corner of Eglinton and Don Mills? Looks more like the corner of Ferrand and Rochefort. But then the Foresters Building is missing from the rendering.
