is it safe to assume there will be no Simons on the east side then?

IKEA is now closing down. Decathlon is gone. HBC is gone. Cineplex is aging. Good be beginning of the end for STC as a mall.
Cineplex once had a plan to build a new theatre which included some VIP screens in the parking lot outside the current ikea, then that fizzled when the 3 stop subway came back to life.I saw the beginning of the end for Morningside Mall which like STC was at one time a bustling mall. This is not the same.
STC is the only major mall in Scarborough and does draw a significant amount of business but having said that Markville is bleeding the mall dry. If Markville was closer, I would go there. They have a better selection of goods than STC.
You are correct though about placed like Cineplex. I remember when they were building that theatre and going to see My Favourite Martian there when it first opened but the era of theatres is slowly dying. If not for the indian films, that theatre would not survive.
Maybe foot traffic isn't translating into spending, but if we are going by foot traffic alone, the mall appears to be supremely healthy. Many evenings you can't even find a seat in the food court. IKEA might have just been a bad fit for this mall profile.IKEA is now closing down. Decathlon is gone. HBC is gone. Cineplex is aging. Could be beginning of the end for STC as a mall.

I say this as someone who wouldn't mind seeing it torn down as I hate the mess it makes of the area street grid, and the focus on indoor shopping vs animated streets.
As a life long Scarberian.. those are fighting words.
Nope.
Oxford is the owner here, they are deep pocketed; the mall still has good traffic and discussions are ongoing to fill the vacant spaces.

But not everyone shares my preferences; and this mall is nowhere near a closure.
There's a long list of properties further up that list, most of which are still clinging on for now.
I’m just curious what they could even fill the spaces with. 2 levels of Sears and 3 levels of HBC now vacant. Move the outdoor stores inside? Tear down those giant box store spaces? Cineplex retrofit one of them for themselves and tear down the current Cineplex?
