A much needed supportive housing proposal in Barrie. Previously, this site hosted a shelter and an OPP station before that.

"The County of Simcoe has submitted an application for a zoning by-law amendment to facilitate the construction of a mixed use building with two towers ranging in height from 9 to 11 storeys, including 215 rental residential units and approximately 4,750 square metres of community and social services agency space.

The project is a large-scale Ontario Works and County Social and Community Services building and will provide a range of housing types including affordable housing units, rent-geared-to income and "missing middle" units as well as space for social, health and community partners."

More info from the county. "Anticipated construction start in the spring of 2024." Completion supposedly in 2027.

not sure about anything, but I’ve seen construction crews here everyday for the past week. They’ve been clearing out all the branches and stuff so it looks like they’re getting ready to dig, they were also surveying the area so…

I’m just wondering if because this is a community project ran by the county if that means construction and target times are faster than private because they can prioritize it and don’t have to worry about as much red tape or no?

We need much more supportive housing all around Ontario, especially in the 905 suburbs. Without supportive housing in every community, downtown Toronto becomes a giant homeless shelter. We need these projects badly considering how much homelessness has increased in the past 5 years in communities around the province.
