Toronto Pro-Sports Attendance Figures

They let you in to stand? And only charge you $120 for the privilege?

TFC makes me think of fried chicken before I think of Toronto FC. I think the short form should be "the FC". I have never really heard people use acronyms like TML, TBJ, TFC. Usually its "the Leafs" or "the Jays".

Of course, one could always use the slogan "go FC yourself"...

Toronto FC

FC stands for Football Club, obviously :)

Toronto FC is nearing the 12,000 mark in terms of season tickets sold. There's a rumour that the demand is so hot they're going to be capping season ticket sales at around 15,000.

Re: Toronto FC

Honestly, that's great to hear. Another sport that will cater to a crowd uninterested in the others, plus some new converts. I think the measure of whether Toronto is a "sports town" will lie more on attendance of the other offerings, Marlies be damned.

Lacrosse (Rock( does well in this town - better than the AHL or OHL (though it is fewer teams) - perhaps fans are looking to other sports (lacrosse, maybe soccer) instead of the Leafs. THough unlike Lacrosse, I think Soccer brings out mostly another market (it helps its played in the warmer months too!).

Though Joe Pantalone has managed to force all day service on the overcrowded 29 into the CNE to serve the stadium, even as it isn't needed except for seasonal and special event service, and the buses are needed elsewhere. Steve Munro is might peeved over that one!

I think the Raptors attendance figures will gain some momentum as well, since the potential is there for them to not be so ass in the future.

The reason for the Leafs' lower attendance is the size of the ACC. According to Wikipedia, it seats 18,819 for hockey, compared with 21,273 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

I don't know why a team that has sold out every game since 1946 wouldn't build a bigger arena. I'm guessing that the Raptors had the design finalized before the Leafs bought them.

That's the basic reason. Construction was already well underway when MLSE bought the Raptors (and by extension, the ACC).

All that was mentioned is that some adjustments would be made to accomodate hockey.

I also believe that this was while our very own Red Ken was Prez of MSLE as well.

That and the ACC has 150+ Private Boxes vs 135 for the Bell Centre.
