True, RER will be expensive and real estate deals will not fund it entirely. But they can help. To paraphrase (and minimize) the late Senator Everett Dirksen, “A million here and a million there, and pretty soon you’re talking about real money.”
 
Real estate deals would likely fund station rebuilds, but I'd be gobsmacked if that extended to the electrification of the lines beyond that. Incorporating a proper station into any development is going to be expensive enough for the developers to cover (and pass on to purchasers at the site).

It's a hundred million here and a hundred million there in the case of the LCBO on Lake Shore. Those condos are also selling well north of $1000 square foot. These deals taking advantage of the continued real estate boom aren't helping affordability which, in my opinion, outweighs any concern in this city. More and more working Torontonians are living below the poverty line.
 
Only downtown stuff is selling at that price though. Whatever Vandyk is planning here will likely sell in the $7-800's.
 
Interesting that they show the Blue Goose Tavern in the background - which itself may disappear for new development. (The wings are very good there.)
The south/east side access to the station is badly needed.

And only the afternoon rush hour local trains go to Oakville - morning, midday, evening and weekend trains continue to Aldershot.

I think the Blue Goose is staying, it's just being integrated into a new development:
