What's with the sign saying "Save Buttonwood Park"? What's happening? Is it related to this development? I thought they were adding a park.

Not related. See below. Very sensitive issue in the neighbourhood.

The neighbourhood streets are filled with these signs.
Nope, just some racist, NIMBY, garbage. It did pass though, BTW: https://secure.toronto.ca/council/agenda-item.do?item=2024.EX13.4

Just to add: the community centre (specifically in reference to the land lease for the Somali Centre) will be reconsidered on October 1st by the Exec. Committee: https://secure.toronto.ca/council/agenda-item.do?item=2024.EX16.4#

P.S. And yes, it is very much racist, the community to the south is the richest neighbourhood in Etobicoke and is VERY white. And even the argument about destroying the green space is weak as for the many times I've walked through the park, I have rarely seen anyone in the large open field that the community centre will be on.

NIMBY, Racist , Garbage?

That's a little dismissive. It certainly is what is blowing this up however, building upon a finite amount of open space as the city continues to add more people is a valid concern. Add to that it's not a general public facility but, one geared towards a specific community.

This is a great point. If you go through La Rose park or Westmount park (which are both close by but north of Eglinton) you'll see many families using the park every day.
This park doesn't have the same traffic.
