I almost wonder if we will see Eglinton split at Mount Dennis into a Line 5a and Line 5b otherwise won’t it be exceedingly hard to maintain service along such a long corridor?

If the Eglinton West extension was properly grade separated like was intended before it got unnecessarily shot down, no. Now that its basically a glorified streetcar through that section, probably.

Well with Ford in power now, the likelyhood of anything being built through Etobicoke is slim to none. He may want to bury everything which drives the costs up significantly and he wont be able to pay for all the subways subways subways.

This particular Transit City line was always originally planned as non-grade-separated from Weston to Renforth. I'm not even sure I even recall an approved plan that included fully grade-separated version - even Rob and Doug Ford both voted to sell off the extra land that would make that possible when Rob Ford was Mayor!

If you read Alex’s caption fast on your phone, it could be an awesome new porno video from the City of Mississauga which given the infamous pics and vids from Queen’s Park and the Hill this week may not be such a stretch.
"Bust Op" takes on a whole new significance with a Presto Card.

Is the 109 especially busy?
It can be, packed in fact, at least for the evening peak. It's one of my saving graces to get to Dundas West when travelling in from the K/W/Cambridge/Guelph area. Even though the Metrolinx regs state they have to allow you (gist) "the cheapest way to travel *by any route* to your destination", they won't honour transfers as an open ticket if you transfer to UPX at the airport via one of the two buses that serve both Square One and Pearson.

So I'm forced to either go completely downtown to Union, and then back northwest on the UPX to Bloor to make it all one fare, or use the TTC, and/or MiWay. And that means the 109 to Islington. It's the fastest way I've found from having to do it hundreds of times, mostly with bike after extensive cycling. It means you don't get co-fare on TTC as well as paying fare on three systems.

One of these days I'm going to test Metrolinx' written bylaw (Part B) in court by insisting that UPX hounour my open ticket for one fare through Pearson the way they do through Union. And God help me from having to ever take the 21 H or P or whatever the hell the latest milk run is down to Union from SqOne.

Taking the 103 (?) down to Port Credit means having to buy a GO paper ticket to not get charged twice to get on the LSW and onward, and also means that since you won't be using Presto to tap your way there, you have to show that ticket for the MiWay driver to manually enter age concession and co-fare so you don't pay full MiWay fare.

Some 'integrated' system...

On the 109, I've learned to change at Winston Churchill, it's just a few steps down the platform as opposed to the utter madness at Square One, and less chance of missing the best connection.

Addendum: Of interest is that half the bus load of the westbound 109 going to the subway disembark at the Aukland stop, and walk down to the Kipling station, rather than continue on to Islington. Next time I don't have my bike on the front, I just might try that, the traffic along Dundas and down Islington is inevitably a hassle.

Do riders embarking onto MiWay buses at Renforth Station and going to Islington/Kipling stations (and then continuing on TTC) have to pay 2 fares? It's technically all in the City of Toronto, right?

Maybe this has been posted before or recently but has any ridership data been published for the buses that use the Transit Way? Is ridership increasing?

If it is in the City of Toronto, it would be illegal for Miway to to pick-up passengers for transit within Toronto according to the Toronto Act. However, there might be an agreement with the TTC to do it, which would be handy, as the West Mall bus is a milk run, and the Eg one takes forever to get to Allen, and then for a westender like me, it me means two subway trips more to get back to the west end.

At some point...*theory has it* that the TTC will run express service from Renforth to Kipling, but the real solution for GO is to do a run from Sq One to Kipling. In theory...some day. Maybe.

Meantime it's a freakin' pain in the azz. It really puts me off doing a lot more escape and return via that route. At least going out I can take the GO train from Bloor station right beside me to points west, including Bramalea, which allows me to catch the 47 bus a few minutes after arriving, and it drops me at Sq One about ten minutes before the 29 bus to Guelph leaves. Bramalea has an excellently timed meeting of the 30 express to K/W with the westbound train, but unfortunately the bus doesn't stop en route to K/W. A loop off at Milton or Aberfoyle would only add ten minutes to the route, but alas. And K/W is a very awkward place to be dropped for distance cycling.

Some day they might have it all figured out. Maybe...

Renforth station is actually just outside the city of Toronto limits.
All MiWay buses drop off ALL passengers on the street outside Islington, and they have to pay a TTC fare to continue their journey.
There is no extra fare to reach the subway from Renforth.

Sure there is.

Now what subway are you talking about??

You have to pay an extra fare getting on a TTC, miWay or GO Transit bus if you are getting off one of the other ones, unless you are transferring from one bus to another for the same system. If you are transferring from any miWay routes to 109S/35E, you need a transfer or your Presto card with current fare to do it free. Same thing for transferring to any other miWay route.

North side of Eglinton for Renforth is in Mississauga, with Toronto on the south side just like Steeles.

My point is that the Renforth Station is on the border of Mississauga and Toronto, so technically riders shouldn't have to pay a second fare to continue on the TTC at Islington station. Riders can come in from deep into York Region (Vaughan Station) without a second fare, yet they can't from the west when they are within the city. Riders on the North Side of the street on Steeles don't pay a second fare, either.

There are other irregularities in fares/doubling fares between East Mississauga and West Toronto. Traveling form Mississauga to Sherway Gardens or Woodbine (on MiWay) does not require an additional fare, but traveling from Toronto to Westwood mall (on TTC) does.

Well, since 109 (bus to Islington) is run by Miway, somebody will have to pay the bills. If the rider is not paying, then TTC will have to pay Miway like it did with VIVA from Downsview to York U before the subway extension opened.
