MGM has released plans for a casino at Exhibition Place:

The Ex will never be the same. All the rides of the Midway are to be moved across Lakeshore Blvd., to the Ontario Place parking lot.

Thanks - the plan looks really suburban sh*tty, especially that miserly, miserable deck over Lakeshore. Plus we have to get transit there just for the sake of it (over other priorities)? No thanks.

I really hope MGM wins the competition for the casino (if there is one). The CNE grounds are severely underutilized and disconnected from the rest of the city. The applicants are proposing an entire entertainment complex instead of just parachuting a casino into the city. It looks like they've done their homework and put together a pretty comprehensive proposal that includes helping out the CNE financially and the revitalization of Ontario Place should be a lot easier if it's surrounded by this project. I look forward to a busy CNE grounds year round and enhanced public transit into the area, not to mention a big boost in jobs and tourists.

lets be honest the EX would also die if this happens... its such a small piece that's remaining and the EX hasn't been booming in a long time... Wonderland monopolizes the market... Im ok if the EX dies but Id be frustrated if that land returned to being a parking lot...
 
You just have to go to Windsor or Atlantic City etc to see that casinos do not "revitalize" anything around them. In fact, they do just the opposite.
 
Certainly not by the design that they offered in this instance - as if somehow everyone would be walking on the Ex grounds as depicted in the renderings when there isn't an event happening - like what, they will magically appear at Princes' Gate?

The conventions centre needs to be downtown to keep our hotels, restaurants and nightlife vibrant. Putting a convention centre out at the EX grounds hurts the viability of the downtown convention centre and draws nightlife and activity away from the core. I also believe that the casino – assuming there will be one – needs to be downtown for the same reason. IMO

Oh, and their plan is extremely unspectacular - cost saving "who cares it's just Toronto" design?

Ugh! Bloggers are the bane of my existence. Along with message boards, texting and instant messaging, they have collectively managed to lower writing standards to that of hillbilly folk.

The gentleman's name was Martin Goodman.

And "past" denotes a period of time previous to the present, while "passed" describes the relationship of two objects.

FYI: I have met the blogger socially, and I know he frequents this site.
 
This looks lame and very suburban. It reminds me of an "open air" mall you find along the interstate in my part of the world. The 10,000 space parking garage is the biggest travesty. That's not at all going to help the Ex integrate back into the city.
 
Another major consideration is traffic. If the casino and convention centres are downtown, they are surrounded by great hotels and restaurants within easy walking distance - park the car and leave it until you leave the city. Put them at the EX and you will need a sea of parking lots as everyone coming - except the few at the one hotel - will have to drive. ( unless WE spend many millions on a transit option)
