Have not seen anything posted for this stuff. Hopefully, it's in the right section.

Ryerson University has had a plan for improving its public realm since 2017. Master Plan PDF

Already completed projects include:
  • Image Arts Streetscape
  • Student Learning Centre Streetscape
  • Devonian Pond Improvements
  • Gerrard Street Improvements
Projects under construction include:
  • Streetscape in front of Daphne Coxwell Health Sciences Complex
  • Link to new complex through 111 Bond St.
Both to be completed when construction is over for the complex.

They have just announced the largest and most important part of this project will start at the earliest March 25 and be finished by the end of the year.

This is the Campus Core Revitalization. This phase will include:

  • Closure of Nelson Mandela Walk, Upper part of Victoria Street, and Gould Street from the Library Building to Image Arts Building until construction is finished
  • Removal of diseased trees due to the Emerald Ash Borer
  • Doubling the number of plants and trees in the area
  • Improvements in lighting
  • Raising and repaving the street on Gould and Victoria to match the new sidewalks creating a permanent pedestrian-only area (and scaring off the skateboarders!)
  • Resurfacing and shift to the east of Nelson Mandela Walk to match new paving and enable green area on both sides of the walk
  • Adding permanent Bollards to increase pedestrian safety
  • Other infrastructure improvements

I'm very much looking forward to this project. Though, future phases are likely of even more interest to me. Church Street could really benefit from an enhanced streetscape/public realm.

An eventual partial/full reconstruction of Kerr Hall that opens up the quad with a much larger set of south and north arch ways and maybe even creates an east one to Church would be great as well and a chance
to address the feeling of Ryerson turning its back on Church in the Gould to Gerrard block.

Definitely, agree with church needing some love, that seems far in the future though. I'm sure they will redevelop Kerrhall into something much bigger but that also wont be for a long time!

Will access to the Podium building and Jorgenson Hall be maintained or will students have to detour through the SLC?

Students will be able to use the sort of balcony area on the side of podium building. Not sure how they will be able to get there but will see soon once all the fencing is up!

Fencing has also started to go up.

Contractors have started cutting down the dying trees on Nelson Mandela Walk this morning.

Most of the diseased trees have been cut down now. The middle section of the project has finally been closed off and Mandella way is fully closed off. You can also see in the first photo the access to POD and library building.
