Not sure if this has been posted yet. Interesting to note the sales of the South Tower, although I suppose we won't know the "true" numbers for another 10 days.

TORONTO, Feb. 27 /CNW/ - The management group behind Maple Leaf Square
has teamed up with leading grocer Longo's to give discerning residents of
Toronto's unprecedented sports and entertainment condominium neighbourhood the
ultimate food shopping experience.
Longo Brothers Fruit Markets Inc. (Longo's) - this year celebrating its
50th anniversary of providing high-quality groceries and fresh produce in the
Greater Toronto Area - will open a 48,000-square-foot store on the concourse
level of The Residences of Maple Leaf Square. The store, which marks Longo's
re-entry into the downtown market, will open in 2009.

..

The North Tower at The Residences of Maple Leaf Square, introduced in
November, is already 85 percent sold. The South Tower, soaring 50 storeys and
including a full complement of suite ranges available for buyers, opened to
the public on Saturday, February 25th, and is already 50 percent sold.

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

I think someone posted the info, but not the actual press release.

With the Longo's at MLS, the Sobey's at QQT and the Loblaws at B&QQ, the rail lands/waterfront will be abundantly blessed with fresh food.

As for MLS, it seems a likely candidate for a 2006 startup, I think this will turn out a worth addition to the skyline.

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

I missed the whole Sobey's at QQT thing. When do they go in? Are they going to be on the ground floor? Or second? Is much being displaced or rearranged for it? I have not been in there since last June...

I don't ever recall a Longo's downtown. Anyone know where this was?

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

A grocery in QQT will add some much need action to a very dull mall in the winter.

In the summer it may just be overload at the waterfront however.

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

good news :) thanks for the update

I agree. It's also the best-located since it's right on the streetcar line.

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

A Longo's at MLS may prove to be popular with Union Station commuters, it'll be a short walk through the PATH under the tracks.

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

does anyone know how exactly MLS will connect to the PATH? that seems like it would be quite the undertaking, especially if its getting built before that menkes development

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

A direct link to the Air Canada Centre will give it PATH access.

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

That's a really good point. Too bad it isn't going on the Menkes site, though, since the hike up to the pedestrian bridge to the ACC, then down to the passage under the tracks to Union Station might be a little long for some people with grocery bags.

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

Remember the proposed "Union Plaza" which will be a new connection from Union Station to the Air Canada Centre will be at this project's door steps.

As for Longos being in downtown Toronto:

About Longo's

Longo Brothers Fruit Markets Inc. (Longo's) is a family owned business established in 1956 when the store was first located on Yonge Street and Castlefield, in Toronto.

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

Isn't Longo's part of the Weston (Loblaws) chain?

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

If Yonge and Castlefield is "downtown," I've got some land to sell you.

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

My definition of downtown used to be anything south of Eglinton, basically the entire old city of Toronto.
