Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

ACC is already on the PATH.

And isnt there a skybridge connecting this development to the ACC. At the very least you would expect this building to be connected at the base to the ACC. It is suppose to have sports fan amenities within.

At least thats what I thought.

"Isn't Longo's part of the Weston (Loblaws) chain?"

Nope.

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

You may be thinking of Fortino's, which is part of Loblaws.

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

Longo's downtown: look no farther than today's picture. Is that the southeast corner of Bay and Queen?

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

It is definitely the SE corner of Bay and Queen, looking east.
However, I don't see Longos. I doubt they were at this location.

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

You're right; that's interesting. That "Lo" does resemble the first two letters of the Longo's logo.

But the sign actually says, "Loans". The HFC logo to its left is the giveaway.

Interesting, too, to see the Bay Cinema in its final days (that's the one whose facade was reconstituted from the old Custom House at Yonge + Front--familiar to "No Mean City" perusers)

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

My sis lives near there, good news about the alternatives to Loblaws and Dominion. When's Sobey's opening? Longos is a quality supermarket (it also sounds like Loblaws' Loeb chain) too!

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

I've seen real estate ads talking about homes in The Beaches being "downtown" :rollin

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

"Loblaws' Loeb chain"

Loeb is a division of Quebec's METRO supermarkets, who also recently bought A&P/Dominion.

What was HFC?

Also, could the "LO..." not stand for Loewes? Did they not have theatres in this part of town?

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

HFC was a financial institutuin, and it stood for - I think - Household Finance Corporation. That would definitely make Loans out of the "Lo".

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

You've got it. HFC was ubiquitous way back when...

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

HFC was around until it was taken over by HSBC about a year ago.

Re: Residences of Maple Leaf Square - Update/Retail

According to the Globe construction will start later on this year. Appearently both towers will be built simultanously.
