Perhaps, but the two sections that are affected are very specific; they are on the far East and West side, right next to the office tower. I will post a picture when I can.

I'm fascinated by the conceptual irony of a brutalist icon now having a ton of steel structure uncomfortably grafted onto it. Same goes for The Britt (lol @ that name), but here it is particularly pronounced. Those little HSS columns look dinky and pathetic with the crushing weight of the original Manulife structure visible beyond.

There are air force pilots who sit on air force bases in Nevada, piloting combat drones thousands of miles away in Afghanistan. Void of physical contact, they can do their jobs remotely, without the distraction of messy details.

The architects thought this was a good idea and followed suit.

According to a statement on the Cineplex website, the Varsity remains open but is undergoing renovations; not sure if this is related to the current work at Manulife.

Don't know when that was posted, but was in the Varsity yesterday and can report no visible signs of any work in any public area as at April 15, 2018.

Don't know if it was mentioned, but the whole lower level of Indigo is currently closed for renovation. The entire store is being made-over into a new concept indigo with the 'curated' areas, and the cultural department store theme. I understand a working kitchen will be added for food events, more non-book space, new appearance, I've given to understand they will hold onto or even slightly expand the number of book titles by going more vertical w/the cases. Low-rise cases are out.

Indigo is also gaining some square footage, as it will move into new space being "reclaimed" from the sidewalk as well.

I wonder how it expansion towards the sidewalk might affect the Cineplex above: if they are able to reconfigure the area with the VIP cinemas and cafe, they may end up with something closer to being worth what they charge for seeing films in them. The newer VIP screens around town are far better than the original ones they have here.
