So it looks like they will limit bunching by forbidding left turns at Simcoe, effectively turning Harbour into a huge off ramp. That island on the east side of Simcoe is interesting - assume it's to accommodate an on-ramp pillar?

Wow, with a three-lane ramp to Simcoe, they seem to be future protecting a future removal of the Gardiner from Rees to the DVP.
 
Will that bike lane on Bay be protected? It's sandwiched between a parking lane (?) and traffic, and traffic is usually pretty chaotic anywhere along Lake Shore.
 
Can't wait for this to happen. Getting off the Gardiner at Bay and then having to quickly shift two lanes to head north on Yonge is a major hazard.

There's a plan under consideration to add another Gardiner eastbound off-ramp to Yonge if the Lower Simcoe off-ramp proves to not be able to handle the load, so I would not read more into the three lanes other than they are concerned about not backing up traffic too much on the highway.

The spiral off ramp is going to be removed. Oh well, I was hoping the portion of the ramp that circles the park could be incorprated into the new design as a raised pedestrian walkway. At least the design gives us an improved park. It will be tightly framed by the surrounding buildings which should preserve its cozy atmosphere. I'm looking forward to it.
 
Ugh, no bike lane? From where the existing off-road trail ends at Lower Simcoe to Yonge Street is like a shooting gallery on a bike. It's outrageous this project is going ahead with a provision for bicycles.
 
The images that have been posted are from 2013 at the latest, and don't reflect the latest plans, neither for a bike lane, nor for bi-directional traffic (as of either York or Bay Street—not sure if they have that settled yet).

can someone explain what the purpose is for that skinny dividing island on the proposed lower simcoe rendering? seems pointless to have 1 sliver lane just to a zigzag and merge back a couple meters later

I heard about a very interesting shortcut recently. Apparently when you're in the far right lane on Harbour at Yonge, the one that's marked for access to Queen's Quay, there's actually not a sign prohibiting left turns--you can stay in the far right lane, wait at the stop sign, and make a left onto northbound Yonge.

It's there to avoid a column holding up the Gardiner. The box locating the column is shown in the image.
