Sure, but it doesn't have to be. Part of what makes King West unique is all the nooks and crannies off the main stretch. Most of these may be dark and shadowed spaces, yet they manage to offer a lot to elevate the urban experience. This courtyard is the Bjark Ingels version of this - I think it will be great.
 
One of the most attractive and liveable features of many European cities is the way there are so many courtyards inside older housing blocks. When I was 10-11 years old I attended a school built into one of those structures. In a way, the courtyard was the equivalent of a schoolyard. In other buildings, it was the center of a small community in the building as a whole. I think the courtyard is a “BIG” plus to this design

Moving activity at 539 King Street West - the Indigo office at the King Toronto site. Not sure if this is related to the site preparations for King Toronto, or Indigo's upcoming move into the King Portland Centre.

I received an email from the developers about an upcoming exhibition (April 1-5) exploring the evolution of the King West neighbourhood, presumably because I attended the Unzipped Toronto exhibition last summer. Anyone going to this? It’s at 134 Peter St.

This opened today, FYI. Open to the public until the evening when private events take over.
 
Was there yesterday. They were still setting up. There were some new drawings, renderings, material samples and a VR tour through the courtyard and lobby spaces. It will be open 11-5pm everyday until Friday this week.

Nice to see the samples of the materials used. I wonder how the walls will actually work - particularly insulation for the glass bricks.

There are wall section drawings of the detailing of the curtain and glass block walls in the exhibition.
It’s amazng how much details and info Westbank is providing on the building, whereas other builders are simply stating basic generic features found in all condos (i.e. “soaring 9 foot ceilings”, stainless steel appliances, smoke detectors, double glazed windows... big deal!). Developers are so non-committal which gives them ample opportunity to bait & switch from the renderings when building is actually built.

This is fantastic! Thanks for posting these photos. I'd love to see this in person, but the opening hours are not friendly to those with day jobs. I wish they had extended the hours to 7pm.
