After viewing some Freed developed projects before, I remain iffy on their build quality.

Yes, build quality is meh. Most of the builders here are pretty mediocre at best. You have a few really good ones and then the rest are disappointing. And the buyer pays a premium for crap.

Why wasn't it just straight brick? What is with Toronto architects and the unforced 'let's-pick-six-materials' nonsense? Look at the unnecessary complexity it takes to frame these stupid aluminum callouts?

I'm not sure I see the issue? No obvious defects, glazing is good, it looks almost exactly like the renders.
