Does anyone know what will happen to the south east corner subway entrance. Will it be redeveloped.?
 
the sidewalk on the south side between Yonge and 33-23 Sheppard is closed off to pedestrian.. Pedestrians have to walk all the way down to Doris to cross. It is not the regular hoarding walkway that you see across the city.. most pedestrians end up jay walking across the Sheppard Highway.. or walking along the fense. its super dangerous.. I wonder for how long they are allowed to keep the sidewalk this un-accessible at such a high traffic area!? ? Tridel any idea?

That sidewalk is CLOSED OFF and there are signs indicating that. If you have a problem with that you should talk to your local city councillor (John Filion). Better yet, if the tenant association at 23 & 33 Sheppard Avenue East speak with a united voice, the city will likely act faster. Or you could just wait until a pedestrian from 23 or 33 Sheppard Ave East gets run over jay walking there,... then the city might be forced to do something. (In one of the above photos, you can spot someone walking there illegally.)

Ideally, the city should close off the curb lane of eastbound Sheppard Avenue East so it can be used as a temporary sidewalk with those temporary cement guardrails/barriers protecting the pedestrians. Eastbound Sheppard at that point will have to be reduced from 3 lanes to 2 lanes,.... and since traffic there isn't terribly heavy,... one really have to wonder why that wasn't done by the city. Notice in the above 5 photos posted by cruzin4u,... we see 3 lanes of eastbound Sheppard Avenue East and see one eastbound car in all 5 photos,... but the westbound lanes are much busier,... especially the westbound to Southbound Yonge left turn lane, which is always packed.

That TTC building at the south-east corner is not a TTC subway entrance,... it's an emergency exit. Its less than 10 years old and added when they opened the Sheppard Stubway line. There's never been an emergency so it's never been used! And now it'll be demolished,.... eventually since Hullmark Centre will have an open area there.

When you're at Yonge-Sheppard subway station on the platform for Sheppard Stubway,... look to the south-east and you'll see a long line of doors,.... that's the emergency exit. That area will eventually lead tothe (north) subway entrance for the Hullmark Centre.

It'll be interesting to see when they actually demolish that TTC building since it's an emergency exit and is still technically required for safety. It'll probably get demolished after they finish building the north part of Hullmark Centre,... or at least the new (north) subway entrance for Hullmark Centre.

This area needs a signature tower (as mentioned in another thread). Could these play that role? They might not be tall enough.
 
I think the Hullmark Centre is supposed to be 168m (551ft) tall, easily tall enough to stand above the current plateau in North York Centre. That's only 8m shorter than Absolute World, and taller than many notable structures such as Burano, Uptown, Success Tower and the TIFF Festival Tower.
 
any idea when emerald might start? that hoarding looks like ground breaking's around the corner.
some nice progress with the groundbreaking. the site looks much smaller now though (did they divide it or something with the trailers on the south-east corner?)

Sunnyray discussed the emergency exit on the north east corner of the site, but it sounded like kd28 had meant the Poyntz Avenue subway entrance/exit on the east side of Yonge. This is where the second tower is to be. It appears from the posted drawings on the Tridel website that there will be an entrance within that tower too that would replace the existing entrance. There is a specific page on the Hullmark centre website that addresses subway entrances.

It will be interesting to see how all of these subway connections will be worked out.
